SUSTech’s Liu Leo LIU wins two awards from Chinese Chemical Society
2023-05-26
Liu Leo LIU, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), recently won the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS) Young Chemist Award (2022) and the CCS Jingqing Award for Rising Star (2022).
These awards recognize Liu Leo LIU’s outstanding achievements and innovative contributions in the field of chemical research.
The CCS will hold an award ceremony at the 33rd Academic Annual Conference in Qingdao from June 17 to 20, 2023. At that time, Prof. LIU will be presented with his awards.
Prof. Liu Leo LIU’s research mainly focuses on the field of main group chemistry, transition meal chemistry, and catalysis. Since joining SUSTech, he has published a number of papers as a corresponding author in several high-level journals, including Nature Synthesis, Chem, CCS Chemistry, Journal of the American Chemical Society, and Angewandte Chemie.
He led his research group to study new structural primitives based on main group elements to deeply understand the basic scientific issues of the bonding mode of main group elements. They have made important contributions to the application of main group elements in functional molecules, materials, and medicine.
The CCS Young Chemist Award was established in 1983 and is the earliest academic award established by the CCS. It is awarded to outstanding young chemists who are able to innovate, improve and complete their work independently in the field of basic chemical research, frontiers, application, industry, or chemical education, and are not more than 35 years old.
The CCS Jingqing Award for Rising Star is an award for young chemists under the age of 35. It aims to recognize the ability and basic conditions of chemists to carry out independent scientific research, as well as original research ideas and their research direction, and achieve a high level of scientific research results.
