The "1st Lesson of Adaptation for New Students" for Graduate Students of Grade 2019 of College of Science

On the afternoon of September 1, 2019, the 3rd lecture of the series of adaptive education for graduate freshmen of College of Science was held in Classroom 102, Lychee Hills Block 1. Xue Zheng, SUSTech’s Director of Office of Student Affairs and Secretary of Youth League Committee, brought about a 1.5-hour-long vivid and profound adaptation course to graduate students (including doctoral degree and master degree candidates) of College of Science. More than 100 postgraduate freshmen attended the lecture with Lan Hai, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Science, as the host.

Audience paying full attention to the lecture
During the lecture, Director Xue Zheng first introduced the common safety issues that graduate students may encounter during the postgraduate period: physical safety, environmental safety, traffic safety, property safety, ideological safety, national safety, women's safety, etc, and put forward the requirements that graduate freshmen should improve their awareness of campus safety and effectively protect their own safety after giving an introduction of university situation and analysis of typical cases.
Then, Director Xue Zheng introduced the various student organizations of SUSTC and the procedures and rules for applying for the establishment of student associations, and encouraged freshmen to actively organize or join interested associations to enrich their campus life.
In addition, Director Xue Zheng also gave a detailed illustration on how to maintain physical and mental health, and introduced SUSTech's great attention on students' mental health and the multiple supporting measures taken. Lastly, Director Xue Zheng also gave a detailed and vivid illustration on interpersonal relationship, emotion, personal cultivation, campus discipline and other aspects, and gave a new semester message to the students, "I hope that your time of studying and living in SUSTech will become your lifelong proud experience!"
During the Q&A session, the students actively asked many questions such as paying social security, applying for the Exit-Entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macau, and recruitment of new members of graduate union. Director Xue Zheng gave detailed answers one by one. Deputy Secretary Lan Hai also gave a concluding speech at the end, hoping that students could strike a proper balance between work and rest and pay attention to mental health.
Although the sharing only lasted for an hour and a half, the students revealed they had benefited a lot, and expressed their feelings and thoughts after the lecture.
