On July 29 to July 30, 2019, the first International Symposium on Theoretical and Physical Chemistry sponsored by the Institute of Theoretical and Physical Chemistry of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was held in the No.1 Lecture Hall of SUSTech. Yang Xueming, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Dean of the College of Science of SUSTech, and Li Juan, Professor of the “Yangtze River Scholar Award” of the Ministry of Education, chaired the symposium. Academician Yang Xueming, followed by Professor Zheng Zhiping, Head of the Department of Chemistry of SUSTech, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony of the symposium.

Over 20 scholars attended the symposium and made reports, including George C. Schatz, Academician of the American Academy of Sciences and professor of Northwestern University of America, Zhi Zhiming, Academician of CAS and professor of the University of Hong Kong, Fang Weihai, Academician of CAS and professor of Beijing Normal University, Zhang Donghui, Academician of CAS and professor of the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of CAS, and Yang Weitao, Academician of the International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science and professor of the Duke University of America.

Over 100 experts and scholars from 34 universities, research institutes and crystalline technology companies such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, the University of Hong Kong, the University of Washington, the National University of Singapore, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Sun Yat-sen University, the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of CAS, Xiamen University, and Shantou University, attended the symposium.
