From May 25 to 26, 2019, the 237th Shuangqing Forum of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) was held in Shenzhen. The theme of this forum was “Chemistry research in the era of artificial intelligence (AI)”. The forum was co-sponsored by the College of Science, the Office of Research of SUSTech, and organized by the NSFC.

Last weekend saw the Department of Earth and Space Sciences (ESS) at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) host a seminar on Space Geodesy and Global Changes in Applied Science. More than 60 experts from across mainland China and around the world travelled to SUSTech to attend the conference.

Over the weekend, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and the Shenzhen Grubbs Institute hosted the first Shenzhen Grubbs Institute –Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIOC-CAS) Seminar. SUSTech University Council Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang, SIOC-CAS Director Tang Yong, and Deputy Secretary Liu Fei of the SIOC-CAS Party Committee attended the seminar. Department head of Chemistry Zheng Zhiping and Executive Director of the Shenzhen Grubbs Institute presided over the seminar.

On the morning of March 21st, 2019, the 8th edition of the Grubbs Symposium opened at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). Robert H. Grubbs, co-recipient of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2005, the Victor and Elizabeth Atkins Professor of Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), foreign associate of Chinese Academy of Science, and SUSTech President Shiyi Chen attended the opening ceremony.
