Associate Professor Zhifang Xu’s research team from the Department of Physics at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), in collaboration with Professor Andreas Hemmerich from the University of Hamburg, Professor Congjun Wu from Westlake University, and Dr. Zixiang Li, a specially appointed researcher at the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, have made significant progress in the research of orbital physics in optical lattices.

Associate Professor Jiashun Hu’s research group from the Department of Earth and Space Sciences at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) has recently made new progress in the study of constraining the India-Eurasia collision process using plate rotation records.

On October 30, 2023, Prof. Naoya Shibata from the University of Tokyo was invited to the 133 Science Lecture in the College of Science. He gave a lecture themed “Magnetic-field-free Atomic Resolution STEM”.

On October 23, 2023, Prof. Patrick Y. S. Lam from the Baruch S. Blumberg Institute was invited to the 131st Science Lecture in the College of Science. He gave a lecture themed “From World's Best-Selling Small-Molecule Drug (Eliquis) to a Powerful Chinese Name Reaction (Chan-Lam-Coupling)”.

On October 24, the American Physical Society (APS) announced that Qikun XUE, President of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Chair Professor of College of Science(SUSTech), Professor of Tsinghua University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), has received the 2024 Oliver E. Buckley Condensed Matter Physics Prize (Oliver E. Buckley Prize) in recognition of his achievements in the fields related to topological insulators and the quantum anomalous Hall effect.

On October 9, 2023, Prof. Marisa Kozlowski from the University of Pennsylvania was invited to the 128th Science Lecture in the College of Science.
