December 27th saw the start of the second annual meeting of the International Consortium of Chinese Mathematicians (ICCM) at National Taiwan University in Taipei, Taiwan province, China. The ICCM has been selecting the best papers of Chinese mathematicians since 2013. Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) Assistant Professor of Mathematics Li Qin and his collaborators won the Best Papers Award this year and received the award from outstanding mathematician Shing-Tung Yau.

Two Assistant Professors in the Department of Earth and Space Sciences (ESS) at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) received two awards at the 2019 Annual Meeting of the Chinese Geoscience Union this Monday. ESS Assistant Professor Han Peng was given the Fu Chengyi Youth Science and Technology Award, while ESS Assistant Professor Ren Hengxin was given the Liu Guangding Geophysical Youth Science and Technology Award.

Over the weekend, the Department of Biology at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) held a Laboratory Open Day, aiming to help the Class of 2023 gain a better understanding of the research resources available to them within the Department and stimulate their interest in practical study while helping them find a potential future academic pursuit.

The American Society of Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) recently held its Annual Meeting, which saw Professor Xiao Guozhi from the Department of Biology at Southern University of Science and Technology selected as an ASBMR Fellow. He was the only mainland scholar selected for this honor in 2019.
