Xi CHENG     2021-01-27

Recently, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) Professor Bin TAN’s team won the first prize of the Natural Science Award in Guangdong Province for its project “Asymmetric Axial Chiral Chemistry of Organic Catalysis”. It is one of 11 first prizes of Natural Science in the whole province, and also the first provincial science and technology award for the University.

Asymmetric axis chiral chemistry was selected as one of the top ten pieces of research in chemistry and materials science in 2020. With the emerging technology of organic catalysis, the team has made a series of developments in asymmetric axis chiral chemistry. The research was published in some of the top international journals such as Science, Nature Chemistry, and Nature Catalysis. The project was funded by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Guangdong Provincial Innovation and Entrepreneurship Project , Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Commission, and SUSTech.

Professor TAN is the Deputy Head of the Department of Chemistry at SUSTech, and the Deputy Editor of Chinese Chemistry. His researches mainly focus on asymmetric axial chiral chemistry guided by chiral drugs, where he has published more than 80 SCI papers.
