From June 23 to 25, the 16th Sino-US Chemistry Professors Conference and Synthetic Chemistry Future Forum was held at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech).
Jianmin GAO, President of the Chinese-American Chemistry & Chemical Biology Professors Association (CAPA), Xueming YANG, Vice President and Dean of the College of Science, Xumu ZHANG, Vice Dean of the College of Science and Chairman of the Forum, and more than 100 experts and scholars attended the forum.
Jianming GAO briefly introduced the development history and recent work of CAPA. He said that the Sino-US Chemistry Professors Conference, as an important academic conference of CAPA, is committed to providing an academic exchange platform for Chinese and American chemical experts and scholars to promote the development of science.
Xueming YANG expressed his gratitude to the experts and scholars who have always supported the development of SUSTech. He said that in recent years, the field of synthetic chemistry in China has developed rapidly. As a young research university, SUSTech has made gratifying achievements in synthetic chemistry.
He hoped that everyone in attendance would communicate and discuss in-depth, promote the high-quality development of synthetic chemistry and chemistry disciplines of SUSTech, and contribute to the country’s high-level scientific and technological development.
Xumu ZHANG briefly introduced the development of the Department of Chemistry at SUSTech, as well as the faculty and research achievements in the field of synthetic chemistry.
He said that the forum would carry out in-depth discussions in multiple fields of chemistry, and he looks forward to taking this meeting as an opportunity to jointly promote the innovative development of synthetic chemistry.
At the opening ceremony, Wei WANG, Professor of the University of Arizona, and Haiping XIA, Chair Professor of the Department of Chemistry and Executive Director of the Shenzhen Grubbs Institute, respectively delivered thematic reports.
The meeting had a total of five sub-sessions, which focused on organic synthetic chemistry, chemical biology, inorganic synthetic chemistry, material chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, and so on. A total of 105 invitation reports and lightning talks were held.
Chinese-American Chemistry & Chemical Biology Professors Association (CAPA) was established in 2002, and the Sino-US Chemistry Professors Conference is an annual conference hosted by CAPA, aimed to provide a platform for exchange and cooperation between Chinese and American chemistry professors and scholars.
