SUSTech hosted 3rd Symposium on Ubiquitin and Proteostasis in Cellular Control

2019-08-01

Last week, the Department of Biology at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) hosted the 3rd Symposium on Ubiquitin and Proteostasis in Cellular Control (Symposium). The Symposium was co-sponsored by SUSTech and the Chinese Society of Cell Biology. More than 30 internationally renowned experts joined over 200 scholars at the conference, in which experts discussed a wide range of topics.

Deputy Director of the Department of Biology Guo Hongwei chaired the Symposium, in his role as the Director of the SUSTech-Peking University Institute of Plant and Food Sciences. The symposium is held every two years, providing a platform for experts and scholars to cooperate and enhancing the international influence of China’s research in the field.

The ubiquitin-proteasome system is the main pathway of protein degradation in cells. It is the core regulatory point of many biological processes and plays an important role in the lives of animals, plants and microorganisms. In recent years, basic research progress of ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like proteins, along with the development of PROTAC and other technologies have played important roles in promoting drug development.
