On the afternoon of September 4, 2019, the 9th "Member Lecture" (i.e. Lecture in Shenzhen Middle School) of Shenzhen Municipal Committee of CPPCC was held in the Pioneer Lecture Hall of Chengmei Building, senior high school campus of Shenzhen Middle School. Yu Dapeng, member of Shenzhen Municipal Committee of CPPCC, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Dean of Institute for Quantum Science and Engineering of SUSTech, delivered a vivid opening lecture of the new semester to more than 1000 freshmen of Shenzhen Middle School on the theme of “The Original Aspiration, Serving the Country via Quantum Science Research". Vice Chairman of Shenzhen Municipal Committee of CPPCC, Wang Daping, attended the activity.

Academician Yu Dapeng graduated from the Laboratoire de Physique des Solides, Université de Paris-Sud, Orsay, France. He was awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2000, the Yangtze RiverScholar Award, Ministry of Education, China in 2002, and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2015. He has been dedicated to the physical research of low dimensional nanostructures for years and acquired fruitful research results in the large-scale production and physical properties characterization of low dimensional quantum materials such as semiconductor quantum wires. 

Based the lecture on his own pursuit of science in spite of difficulties, Academician Yu Dapeng illustrated the classical science of the macro world, Newtonian mechanics, and explained micro phenomena such as atomic structure and quantum theory like discrete spectrum in an easy-to-understand approach. He introduced passionately the research status and achievements of quantum mechanics in China, especially the basics about the Institute for Quantum Science and Engineering, the development speed of which is comparable to that of Shenzhen; his words such as “Quantum technology is still in a fledging period and has a long way to go. Do not impede its development with undue praise”, “We need to pay more attention to cultivate and train talents of quantum technology, so as to provide momentum for future development”, “When hitting bottlenecks, we need to surmount obstacles in the research and development of core technology” caused bursts of applause; Academician Yu strived to ignite the students’ interest in scientific research and encourage them to commit themselves into scientific research, so as to contribute their wisdom and strength in constructing Shenzhen into a city of innovation and entrepreneurship, a city standing as a benchmark for competitiveness, innovation and global influence. The lecture was a success.

The Lecture is co-organized by the Shenzhen Municipal Commission of Science, Education, Health and Sports of the CPPCC and Shenzhen Middle School. Cao Yaliang, Deputy Secretary General of Shenzhen Municipal Committee of CPPCC, Du Qin, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Municipal Commission, Zhu Huixing, Deputy Director of the Municipal Commission, Qiu Xuan and Lian Cong, co-employed deputy directors of the Municipal Commission, as well as more than 30 members of Shenzhen Municipal Committee of CPPCC, including Zhao Zhenshuan, Luo Wenhua, Li Huilin, Deng Shaoyong, Xing Xiangzhao, Wang Xiang, Zhang Xiaoli, Yang Lingxiang and Zhao Qingxiang, Zhu Huawei, Headmaster of Shenzhen Middle School, and a working team from the Department of Basic Education of Shenzhen Education Bureau participated in the event.
