SUSTech chemists published “Organic Chemistry Experiments” textbook

In recent days, “Organic Chemistry Experiments,” a textbook written and edited by theDepartment of Chemistry Professor Bin TAN and Dr. Fang FANG, was published by Higher Education Press.

The publication of the textbook has set a new standard in the development of the Department of Chemistry Teaching Center (Center), providing a reference point for the teaching of organic chemistry experiments.

The Center has been central to the formation of the Department of Chemistry. The lecture notes used in every course has been compiled to develop the textbook. The experimental content values both theoretical knowledge and fundamental skills. It also pays more attention to open-ended and comprehensive experiments.

The textbook integrates fundamental organic chemistry experiments with large projects that reflect the development of organic chemistry over time. It seeks to cultivate curious and innovative students that transform cutting-edge scientific research achievements into experimental teaching content. Students are encouraged to use modern instruments and equipment to analyze the results.

The textbook brings together professional knowledge, up-to-date literature, experimental design, analytical methods, and innovative thinking. This narrative choice guarantees the advanced nature of the experimental content while incorporating less-experienced scholars into the textbook.

They have also implemented 21st-century materials into their textbook, with QR codes linking to videos. It allows for textbook readers to view videos on mobile devices to better understand challenging experiments by watching and reviewing them, while also keeping them engaged in the content.

Bin TAN and Fang FANG have worked for over ten years on the creation of this textbook across many different organic chemistry experiment courses. They referred to many textbooks from around the world to develop an optimal structure. Their associate editor was Yuena YU, an experimental engineer, contributed to the book, as did many other colleagues.
