When it comes to facing the environmental challenges facing the world today and the future, some students choose to study the environmental sciences or change majors to head down this academic pathway. However, Qikun HU (’20, Chemistry) took a distinctly different path, opting to follow his heart to study Chemistry and investigate photovoltaic cells. It represents his dream as a high school student, where he would grow crystals in what little spare time he had.

As our students prepare to move onto new pastures as they finish their graduation projects, one associate professor is experiencing a bittersweet experience. Four members of his research group will depart as outstanding representatives of the Class of 2020 to world-renowned universities around the world.

Linying SHANG (’20, Chemistry) is an outstanding student who has loved her life at SUSTech, before deciding to continue her academic pursuits at the University of Cambridge. She strives for excellence in an open-minded, active, and uncompromising approach to probing research, as she has built her dreams.

On May 4th, Qikun HU (’20, Chemistry) was awarded the “Making Scientific Progress through Academia Youth Award,” along with 60 other recipients across Guangdong Province. The nominees were university students who work hard, innovate, start a business, make progress, help the poor, and are morally upstanding.

On April 23, the 36th Antarctic Scientific Expedition returned to its domestic base terminal in Shanghai, with the boats Xuelong and Xuelong 2 docking to mark the successful end of their expedition. Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) Earth and Space Sciences (ESS) research assistant professor Lei FU was invited to take part in the 36th Antarctic Scientific Expedition.

In the fight against COVID-19 epidemic, Xu Xiao, doctoral candidate from Dept. of Physics, studied far from his lab and made advance in improving thermoelectric performance.
