Viscoelasticity – A ‘hidden’ degree of freedom for governing Mott criticality

A research team led by Assistant Professor Shanmin Wang from the Department of Physics & Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) has recently reported their latest progress on the study of Mott transition in PbCrO3 by measuring the lattice parameter at pressure. This led to the discovery of a Mott transition mechanism, a long-standing issue that has eluded physicists for more than half a century.

Researchers make breakthrough progress in atom-light non-Hermitian interface

Associate Professor Jiefei Chen’s research group of the Shenzhen Institute for Quantum Science and Engineering (SIQSE) at SUSTech has made a breakthrough in exploring a new type of non-Hermitian atom-photon interface at the single-quantum level. Their work, entitled “Quantum Interference between Photons and Single Quanta of Stored Atomic Coherence,” was published in Physical Review Letters, a top international journal in physics.

Researchers make progress on designing light-element spin-orbit coupled materials

Associate Professor Qihang Liu’s research group of the Shenzhen Institute for Quantum Science and Engineering (SIQSE) and the Department of Physics at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), in collaboration with Professor Xiangang Wan at Nanjing University, has made substantial progress in the field of designing light-element materials with correlation-enhanced spin-orbit coupling effect. Their research results were recently published in the top journal Nature Communications, entitled “Designing light-element materials with large effective spin-orbit coupling”.

Assistant Professor Jiashun Hu from the Department of Earth and Space Sciences at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and his co-authors have reported their latest work proposing the lost plate in North Pacific, the Kronotsky Plate (KRO), which is the key to the puzzle. Their work, entitled “Dynamics of the abrupt change in Pacific Plate motion around 50 million years ago,” has been published in the high-impact academic journal Nature Geoscience.
